Welcome to Savings Digest

EMMA R..png Hi, I’m Emma Reynolds—founder of Savings Digest, Columbia Business School graduate, former financial advisor, and firm believer that saving money doesn't mean saying goodbye to your latte habit. I'm that friend who gets oddly excited about credit card points and has spreadsheets for everything—but also splurges on concert tickets without an ounce of guilt.

After spending years helping high-net-worth clients grow their wealth portfolios, I realized something was missing: straightforward, judgment-free money advice for everyone else. So I traded my corner office in Midtown for a sunlit apartment in Brooklyn Heights (shared with my mischievous orange tabby, Cosmo, who has expensive taste in cat toys), and Savings Digest was born.

Why I Created Savings Digest

The idea for Savings Digest hit me on a particularly gloomy Tuesday. I was sitting at my favorite coffee shop, rain streaming down the windows, staring at yet another client's complicated financial plan. I had this moment of clarity: despite my NYU finance degree and years of experience, even I found certain aspects of money management unnecessarily complex.

If I were feeling this way with all my training, what about everyone else?

So I started documenting my own financial journey—the wins, the embarrassing mistakes (like that $200 "investment" in a skincare fridge I used exactly twice), and the small tweaks that actually moved the needle. When friends started asking for my spreadsheet templates and savings hacks, I knew this could be bigger than my personal finance diary.

That’s how Savings Digest began with one simple goal: to create the financial resource I wish existed for everyone—whether you're a college student figuring out budgeting for the first time, a parent balancing family expenses, a mid-career professional optimizing your investments, or a retiree making your savings last. No matter your life stage, you deserve financial guidance that treats you with respect, provides clear information, and skips the condescending lectures.

Our mission

Find money advice that grows with you.

What You’ll Find Here

I believe that financial confidence starts with small, consistent wins—and that’s exactly what Savings Digest is here to help you achieve. The site is organized into three core categories:

  • Smart Spending: Make intentional choices with your money—whether it’s a better grocery list, the right time to buy a big-ticket item, or how to spend on what truly adds value to your life.
  • Everyday Savings: Simple, real-world ways to cut costs without cutting corners. From utility bills to meal planning to everyday spending habits, these tips are meant to fit into your life—not flip it upside down.
  • Money Essentials: This is where the financial foundation happens. Think budgeting basics, emergency funds, credit scores, and all the money know-how you were never taught in school—but really need to feel confident today.

Why You Can Trust Savings Digest

Everything you read on this site is grounded in real research, lived experience, and a whole lot of trial and error. I take the time to explore what actually works, and why. Alongside a small team of trusted writers who share that same standard, we dive deep into expert-backed sources, speak with financial educators, and learn from everyday savers to ensure every piece is accurate, relevant, and genuinely helpful.

Savings Digest isn’t about quick fixes or financial perfection—it’s about progress. It’s about helping you take one smart step at a time toward the life you want, with money that works for you.

Who’s Behind the Advice?

While I write a good chunk of what you’ll find here (usually with Cosmo trying to sit on the keyboard), I also collaborate with a small circle of brilliant contributors who help bring Savings Digest to life.

Each contributor brings something different to the table: experience, credentials, and clarity. Some have backgrounds in financial planning or behavioral economics. Others are savvy spenders with spreadsheet skills that deserve a trophy. All of them share one goal: making money advice feel relatable, honest, and genuinely useful.
